The willful ignorance of Jonathan Neville

On Monday, October 28, 2019, Dr. Stephen D. Houston, Dupee Family Professor of Social Sciences at Brown University, will be giving a free public lecture at Brigham Young University on “Recovering a Lost World: The LiDAR Revolution and Ancient Maya Warfare.”

Today (October 21, 2019) Jonathan Neville expressed his disdain for any mention of Mayan warfare at BYU:

Based on that comment, it’s clear that Neville has no idea who Houston is, doesn’t know he is not a Latter-day Saint, and doesn’t know that he won’t be speaking about the Book of Mormon.

But this would hardly be the first time that Jonathan Neville and the facts have been in opposition to one another.

  1. I suppose it is good he has acknowledge that there are a "... handful of professors who still believe what the prophets have taught ..." at BYU. Progress?

    1. What he means by that is "a handful of professors who believe the Heartland Book of Mormon theory" like he does.

BYU professors agree with him = they believe the prophets. BYU professors disagree with him = they reject the prophets.

    2. Good to know. Since my appointment is to a red university north of BYU, I'm already an apostate. And since I'm firmly entrenched in the the Mayan camp, I'm a double apostate. I am sure glad that the Church allows we UU-Mayan apostates to still serve in the Salt Lake Temple (at least for two and bit more months). Glad the new temple recommend interview questions do not include, "Are you, or have you ever been a Mayan-Book of Mormon geography believer?"
